Suddenly, the splendid wedding display unfolded. On the bed of honor, the groom held Psyche in his arms; and, in the same post, Jupiter with Juno. Then cam all the gods, each according to their rank. Nectar circulated; Jupiter had his young shepherd as cupbearer; Bacchus poured a glass for the rest of the assembly. Vulcan had taken charge of the cooking. The Hours scattered flowers and roses everywhere, the Graces spread perfumes, the Muses made their melodious voices heard. Apollo sang, accompanying himself on the lyre, and Venus's lovely feet traced a graceful step, attuning it to these divine chords. She herself had thus completed her orchestra: the muses sang in chorus, a Satyr played the flute, a Faun the reed pipe. Thus Psyché was united with Cupid in the proper way. A daughter was born from their love: she is called Voluptuousness.
